Aldacs
ALDACS are characterized by the following main functionalities and features:
1 |
No direct contact between Air and Desiccant: These streams are separated by a pervious Membrane; |
2 |
Heat Recovery between Exhaust Air (ETA) and Fresh Air (ODA); |
3 |
Cooled air dehaydration; |
4 |
Indirect Evaporative Cooling (IEC) of the Supply Air (SUP) |
5 |
Heated regeneration of the Liquid Desiccant; |
6 |
Heat recovery between the regeneration Exhaust Air (EHA) and the regeneration Fresh Air (ODA); |
7 |
Chemical Energy Storage in liquid desiccant at two different (Low and High) concentrations; |
8 |
Non-simultaneous operation of the Conditioner and Regenerator required; |
9 |
Operation of multiple (distributed) Conditioners, with centralized Regeneration; |
10 |
Complete absence of mechanical cooling; |
11 |
Extremely low electric power requirements. |
The Conditioner
The whole Air Conditioning Process takes place in a Conditioner Block.

The following Operations take place in the Conditioner Block:
1 |
Air Filtering at inlet to the Block; |
2 |
Pre-Cooling by the Exhaust Air (EHA) in the HRHX; |
3 |
Air Dehydration in the Air Drier; |
4 |
Cooling in the IEC (Indirect Evaporative Cooler), using the Return Air (ETA); |
5 |
Heat Recovery before exhaust in the HRHX. |
The Regenerator
The desiccant regeneration is carried out in a Regenerator Block, that may also include a Desiccant Storage.

The following Operations take place in the Regenerator block:
1 |
Air Filtering at the Block Inlet; |
2 |
Pre-Heating of the regeneration air in the HRHX; |
3 |
Air Hydration in the DESHX; |
4 |
Heat Recovery from the regeneration air in the HRHX; |
5 |
Desiccant from DSS is dehydrated in the DESHX and delivered to the CSS; |
6 |
Heat Recovery in the DHRHX between the Desiccant returning from the DESHX to the CSS, and that leaving the DSS to the DESHX. |

Notes & References
[1] Liquid desiccant concentration; is measured indirectly. In fact two magnitudes are measured, temperature and electrical conductivity. The concentration, as salt mass fraction, may then be calculated.
